Created to Be Loved

A few weeks back I saw on the back of a car a giant window decal that covered the back glass. These are relatively common and are often various sports or other corporate logos.  This one was different.

The decal said – Created to Be Hated.

What a tragic Continue reading

Memorial Day 2017

It is Memorial Day, 2017, and it is raining.  On Memorial Day, 1986 it was raining.  I remember because I was holding the United States Colors as a wreath was laid in honor of those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who have given their lives for our country.  We placed the wreath at the grave of Private First Class Milton Olive, 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate), who, on the 22nd of October 1965 sacrificed his life in an act of incredible gallantry.  His citation reads: Continue reading

Did She Remember?

It is the 26th of March 2017.  The 4th Sunday of Lent and the day after the celebration of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary – the day when the Church recognizes the angel coming to Mary and telling her that she would bring Jesus – the Son of God the Father – the Messiah – the Christ – into the world.

Coffee is the Best Reward?

I was recently travelling and stayed in a hotel.  My typical routine in a hotel is to get up early, get a cup of coffee, and have my time of morning prayer.  On this, my most recent hotel stay, the paper cup had a message printed on its side.  “Coffee is the Best Reward.”

To say it was a bit of a collision between priorities is an understatement.  Continue reading

Old and Grey

In case you have not already heard – retirement can be a real shock to your system.  There is a lot that goes into that reality.  Probably most important among the factors is that we, as a society, tend to identify ourselves with our work.  When introduced to somebody new the most common first question is, “So, what do you do for a living…?”  Our work becomes Continue reading

Facing the Wind

Windy PilgrimMost people who are facing as strong of a headwind as the man of this statue would turn around, quit, go inside and wait, or do just about anything but keep walking into the wind.  Not having to face the wind is a luxury of  Continue reading
