Eve and Mary

It is important to remember while studying the Bible that in the New Testament we have a record (sometimes direct and sometimes indirect – today’s example is indirect) of Jesus bringing about the reversal of what happened in the Garden of Eden.

Remember in the Garden that Man was created first and woman, in the person of Eve, came from man (fashioned from Adam’s rib).  Then in an act of disobedience, woman, Eve, ate from the Tree of Knowledge which had been forbidden and then gave the fruit to man, Adam, to also eat.  This brought sin and destruction into the world.

Now in the New Testament, Woman comes first, in the person of Mary, and from her man, in the person of Jesus, comes forth.  Mary, woman, was this time obedient to God and gave birth to Jesus, Man, who lived a life of perfection and was sacrificed on our behalf.  This brought grace and redemption into the world – a reversal of what happened in the Garden of Eden.

Let us all look forward to the Second Advent when Jesus returns to complete the establishment of His Kingdom on Earth and all sin is banished from our lives.
