How Important is Heritage?

The “it is heritage” trope is getting a bit old. I suppose it is to be expected from non-Christians but from all those who claim to be in Christ an allegiance so strong to anything/anyone other than the Kingdom of God and Christ is puzzling.

Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear:
forget your people and your father’s house,
and the king will desire your beauty.
Since he is your lord, bow to him.
~Psalm 45:10–11~

To be clear – I do not care what you fly, what you wear, or what you do. I personally enjoy flying my Texas flag. I do care when any Christian insists on doing things outside of being true to the Gospel that intentionally offends others.

My first mentor in the the ministry told me: Never intentional offend people – the Gospel will be offensive enough to just about everyone you meet without you adding to it.

And for those about to protest – Yes, there are a lot of people out there that simply like getting offended and need to learn how to put their grown-up pants on and live in a sin damaged world without whining over everything. There are a good number of said people on both sides of our current controversy that rages unabated while real problems such as disease, starvation, lack of clean drinking water, the open killing of Christians and desecration of Holy sites occur without any significant intervention. Hooray for us America – we have shown the world what “serious issues” we really want to wrestle with.
